The next leg of our month-long camping trip took up north to Michigan's Mackinaw City. We stayed 3 nights at the TeePee Family Campground along the shore of Lake Huron.
TeePee Family Campground is small in land area, but manages to squeeze in 97 water & electric sites and one large bathhouse. You can't reserve a specific site here - they are assigned. The single loop road through the campground is a bit narrow and it can be tricky getting into some of the sites, especially if someone is camped directly across from your space. The sites are located very close to each other, but we didn't find that to be a problem. All of the campers around us were quiet and respectful of others. However a few of the campsites closer to the water were larger and some of the sites opposite of ours were longer for larger RVs. There are no permanent/seasonal sites in this campground.
We did have a harder time than usual getting into our campsite due to the narrow roads and the close proximity of the neighboring RVs, but we managed to get into place with only a couple of extra turns. The site was mostly level, and we only needed one block under the wheels on one side. However we did have to back our RV all the way to the shrubbery behind us to fit in and had to park our truck next to us as there wasn't room for it anywhere else. On the plus side, our site was shaded. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring, but we weren't able to use ours because it was too close to our RV and you weren't allowed to move them.
The campground does have some amenities that made it worth our while to stay there. There is a small sand beach with a play area for small children and some nice large swings suitable for two or three people facing the water with views of the Mackinac Bridge. There was also a half basketball court located next to the bathhouse that received a lot of use during our stay. In addition, there is a game room attached to the store. There isn't a swimming pool or organized activities for children at this campground. The website for the campground stated they had free WIFI, but when we checked with the staff regarding a password, they stated it didn't work well if at all.

There is a small camp store where you can buy very limited supplies and some small souvenirs and post cards. However the campground is located very close to the main street in Macknaw City where you can find groceries as well as many other stores and eateries. Most importantly to us, you can purchase discount tickets to Mackinac Island via Sheplers Ferry right at the camp store. Sheplers provides a free shuttle service to and from the ferry dock, making it very convenient to visit Mackinac Island. We found the staff in the campground to be friendly and helpful.
As previously stated, the bathhouse was large, however the showers were crowded into one corner, were on the small side, plus the changing area was tiny and didn't have a seat. However it was very clean, the water pressure was good and it was located centrally to all of the campsites.
All in all, we were pleased with our experience at TeePee Family Campground. It worked well for our short stay and gave us the ease of access we were looking for to visit Mackinac Island. All of the families that were there during our stay seemed to be enjoying the campground. The children especially enjoyed the beach and swimming in Lake Huron. We would recommend this campground for short stays and for visiting Mackinaw City and nearby areas, including Mackinac Island.
